A QR code generator without a subscription
Most QR codes need no subscription at all. A static code stores your link, Wi-Fi details or phone number in the pattern itself, so it's free and never expires. You only depend on a service for codes you want to change after printing, and even those can be free.
Do you need a subscription?
| You want to… | Kind of code | Subscription? |
|---|---|---|
| Share Wi-Fi with guests | Static | No |
| Put your contact details on a business card | Static | No |
| Link a flyer or poster to a page that won't move | Static | No |
| Take payments by UPI or Pix | Static | No |
| Link a menu or price list you'll update | Editable | No, for up to 3 codes |
| Count scans of a campaign | Editable | No, for up to 3 codes |
| Run more than 3 editable codes, or change them often | Editable | Yes, from $4/month billed annually ($5 monthly) |
The rule of thumb: if what the code opens will never change, make it static. If it might, make it editable, so you change the link instead of reprinting.
Make a code without subscribing
- Open the free generator and choose the type: link, Wi-Fi, contact card and so on.
- Type your details. The code is made in your browser; nothing you type is sent to us. Link and text codes don't even need an account; the other types need a free one, with no card.
- Download SVG or PDF for printing, or PNG for screens.
- Scan the printed code with two phones before printing a batch.
Want no account and no logo under the code? Our sister site QR Never Expires makes static codes with no sign-up and no watermark.
Where subscriptions sneak in
- "Free" generators that make dynamic codes by default. The code is a short link on their address, and it may stop when the trial ends. If your phone shows an unfamiliar short link when you scan, it's dynamic.
- Downloads behind a trial. Some sites let you design for free, then ask for a card to download.
- Renewals. A trial that turns into a yearly plan unless you cancel in time.
Not sure about a code you already have? The free checker tells you whether it depends on a service. More on why codes stop: Do QR codes expire? and QR code not working.
If you do pay later
QR Code Spot's paid plans are subscriptions too, monthly or yearly. You pay for more editable codes, unlimited changes, longer analytics, logos and frames, not for your codes to keep working: the QR code itself does not expire. What a static code opens is stored inside the code, so we can't pause it or put a paywall in front of it. A linked website must still remain available. Editable codes keep working on every plan, even after cancelling. See our guarantee and Plans.
Questions
Can I make a QR code without signing up?
Yes. Link and text codes need no account on QR Code Spot, and QR Never Expires makes 14 kinds of static code with no account.
Do free static QR codes expire?
No. What they open is stored inside the code, so no company can switch them off. They work as long as what they open still exists.
Is there a one-time payment instead of a subscription?
Not at QR Code Spot: paid plans renew monthly or yearly until you cancel. Static codes and the Free plan cost nothing.
What happens to my codes if I cancel a paid plan?
They keep working. After 14 days, editable codes above the Free plan's 3 keep opening the same page but can't be changed until a plan covers them.
