Verified Photo Pass
Passes for staff, guests and members where the QR code is the holder's face. Anyone can scan it to see whether it's real, still valid or revoked, and who issued it.
Making the example…
- You add the holder's details and photo, or invite them to send a selfie.
- Their face becomes the QR code: on a printed card, or live on their phone, changing every minute.
- Anyone who scans it sees a check page on qrcodespot.com with the photo on file: valid, expired or revoked, and who issued it.
- Pass types and zones (Crew, VIP, Backstage…) decide where each holder may go and how many entries they get.
- Your guards use the gate scanner to check zones and entries and mark people in and out. Copied passes get flagged.
Your pass dashboard
Issue and manage passes, run events, add up to 3 helpers, set up guards' phones and follow every entry in your private dashboard. It's on paid plans: each active pass uses one of your plan's editable QR codes, from 15 on Starter.
Questions
Can a Verified Photo Pass be faked?
Each pass opens a check page on qrcodespot.com with a random code only our server knows, so a made-up pass shows "Not a real pass". The check page shows the photo we keep, so a card with someone else's face on a real pass doesn't match. Live passes on the holder's phone change their code every minute, so screenshots and photocopies stop working, and gate scanners flag a pass that's shown again while its holder is already inside.
Do you store the holder's photo?
Yes, a small photo of their face, so whoever checks the pass can compare the person with it. It's shown only on that pass's check page, and deleted as soon as the pass is revoked or expires. Besides the photo we keep only what the check page shows: the name, role, details you add, the last 4 characters of an ID or phone number, and the dates.
What is a live pass?
A link you send the holder. On their phone it shows their pass with a code that changes every minute, so a screenshot or a photocopy stops working. Tick "Phone only" when you issue a pass to refuse its printed card altogether.
What does the gate scanner do?
Make a gate link and open it on a guard's phone, then type the gate's 6-digit PIN once to pair that phone. It scans passes with the camera, trusts only real qrcodespot.com passes, shows the photo on file, and lets the guard mark people in and out. If someone comes to the wrong gate, it says so and tells the guard which gate to send them to. If a pass is shown again while its holder is inside, it's flagged as a likely copy and you get an email.
Can I use it for an event?
Yes. Make zones for the areas inside (Backstage, VIP lounge, Media pit) and pass types for your people (Organiser, Crew, Artist, VIP, Press), each with the zones it may enter and how many entries it gets: unlimited, a number in total, or a number a day. Give each entrance and zone a gate link. Invite a whole crew list from a spreadsheet: each person sends their own selfie, and you approve it. Running more than one event? Each event keeps its own passes, gates and analytics: 2 on Starter, 5 on Growth, 20 on Pro, 100 on Scale.
Can I put my event's logo and artwork on the passes?
Yes. Under Organisation, add a logo and a background image, such as your event poster. They show on every card, the holder's live pass, the check page and your gate scanners. The face code stays on a white panel so it always scans. Only use images you have the right to use; the check page still says whether the issuer is verified.
Can a holder have a printed card and a live pass?
Yes, unless you tick "Phone only". Each printed card carries its own card number, and gates show which one was scanned. Holders can't make their own working card: a printout or screenshot of the live pass stops working within 2 minutes, and a code without its card number is refused. A printed card can still be photocopied, so gates flag a pass scanned again while its holder is inside, and guards must compare the face with the photo on file. If a card is lost, replace it: the old card stops working at once and the live pass carries on. For key roles, choose phone only.
Can the holder send their own photo?
Yes. Choose "Invite them": you get a link for the holder. Their camera opens with an oval to fit their face in and tips (closer, more light, only you), and takes the photo when it's right. You then review it, with a preview of the code, and approve it or ask for another; the same link becomes their live pass.
What kind of photo works?
Any photo with one person facing the camera in good light, landscape or portrait. We find the face in your browser (the photo isn't sent anywhere for that) and frame it square with room for the head and shoulders; you can drag and zoom. Before a pass is issued or a selfie approved, you see the photo and the code it makes, and confirm.
Why only the last 4 digits of an ID or phone number?
Anyone who scans a pass sees its check page, so a full ID or phone number would be on show. The last 4 are enough for a checker to compare with the person's ID card, without exposing it.
What does "Verified issuer" mean?
We checked that the account really belongs to the organisation named on the pass. Without it, the check page says the issuer isn't verified, since anyone can make an account. Verification is on the Pro and Scale plans.
How many passes can I make?
Verified Photo Pass is on paid plans, and each active pass uses one of your plan's editable QR codes: 15 on Starter, 100 on Growth, 300 on Pro, 1,000 on Scale, shared with your other editable codes. Revoked and expired passes free their code again.
Can other people help me issue passes?
Yes. On paid plans you can add up to 3 helpers by email. They sign in with that address and open Your passes at qrcodespot.com/passes, and you tick what each may do: issue passes, approve selfies, revoke passes, manage gates or see analytics, for all pass types and events or only some. Only you can change pass types, zones, card design, events and helpers. Guards don't need an account: each phone is paired with the gate link and its 6-digit PIN, and you can sign a phone out at any time.
Can some people get a card without a photo?
Yes. Set a pass type's printed card to "Standard QR": its cards carry a plain QR code in the style and colour you pick under Card design, with no face on the card. The photo is still on file and shows on the check page, and the holder's live pass still shows their face code.
What if a pass is lost or someone leaves?
Lost card: replace it under Passes (Card, then "Card lost? Replace it"), and the old card is refused at once. Someone leaving, or a lost phone: revoke the pass. Its check page then says "Pass revoked" straight away, on cards and live passes alike.
